Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is experiencing the same paint peeling problems that plagued its predecessor. Reddit users are sharing photos of their brand-new foldables with flaking and peeling paint, suggesting Samsung hasn’t fully resolved the manufacturing issues from the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Last year, Galaxy Z Fold 6 owners faced identical cosmetic failures, prompting Samsung to issue an official statement blaming poorly-grounded third-party chargers for degrading the phone’s anodization process. The company insisted that using non-Samsung chargers caused the paint problems.
However, these new Galaxy Z Fold 7 reports poke holes in Samsung’s explanation. Multiple users claim they’ve exclusively used Samsung’s official charger since unboxing their devices. If Samsung’s own charging hardware causes paint degradation, that points to a much deeper manufacturing problem.

The more likely culprit appears to be improper aluminum treatment during production. Several users suggest the anodized finish wasn’t properly bonded to the metal frame, creating weak points where paint naturally separates over time.
Some customer service representatives dismiss paint peeling as “cosmetic damage” that doesn’t affect device performance, essentially telling customers they’re stuck with ugly phones. Others get more sympathetic treatment. Some users say Samsung arranged for device pickups for evaluation, and others had their cases escalated to corporate for review.
For a $1,800+ flagship device, cosmetic quality should be guaranteed regardless of whether it impacts functionality. Samsung needs to acknowledge this isn’t a charging issue and implement proper quality control measures. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 deserves better than recycled problems from previous generations. Especially when customers are paying premium prices for cutting-edge technology.
